A brand new week…

My goal this week is to see how much I can get done!  I have a pretty full work schedule and I need to run to town to pick up some fabric and zippers and little things and I have to take some books back to the library tomorrow.  Other than that trip I plan to stay home all week and work and clean.  Realistically, I know that I won’t get nearly as much done as I need to, but I am going to try anyway!

Today, I am kind of at a standstill with sewing because I need to pick up some more corduroy for the bag I need to work on next.  I am going to cut out as much as I can, but I know that I don’t have enough and I need to run to Hobby Lobby tomorrow and get more.  I also need to prewash the fabric for the bag after that, but I can do that today and start getting it cut out as well and then I will be ahead of the game tomorrow, at least a little bit.  So the plan for most of today is getting caught up with laundry and cleaning so that I can spend the rest of the week sewing and my house doesn’t look like a total disaster at the end of the week!

I had an order for a smaller (kids sized) messenger bag this weekend.  This is something I have been wanting to do for some time, but never had a request for one so I never took the them to make a sample one.  Now that I have an order, I am finally going to make Bailey the one I promised her for last year, but never actually made!  We are ordering her fabric today along with the fabric for the little girl whose mom ordered this weekend.  They are both going to be pink and green!  Bailey’s is all animal print though!  This is what she picked out…

Untitled-1
The first one is for the body of the bag, the 2nd is the flap and the last is for the inside.  I think we are going to do a “B” in black on the flap too.  I think it will be really cute and hopefully I will sell lots more before school starts back up in the fall!  I plan on doing pencil pouches and composition books to match them as well.

I really need to go grocery shopping sometime this week too especially so that we can stay home most of the week and actually have food to eat!  I really hate grocery shopping though especially now that the kids are out of school.  It’s way harder to shop with all of them.

Well, I have a load of laundry to fold and another to start, then I need to get to work getting my kitchen cleaned…

Have a great day!

Cinnamon Biscuits

Jake and I were at Cracker Barrel awhile back and they had these cinnamon biscuits that were really good. I was pretty sure that I could duplicate them at home and I did!

I was trying to think of something to make the kids for snack the other day, it’s getting harder and harder to find new things around here!  This popped into my head and I decided to try it since I had some baking mix on hand.

Cinnamon Biscuits

  • biscuits (I like homemade so I make this with baking mix like Jiffy, Pioneer or Bisquick)
  • butter
  • cinnamon sugar

Cook your biscuits if you need to.  Preheat your broiler to high, I leave my rack in the center because they can burn too quickly otherwise.  Halve your biscuits and put them under the broiler for just long enough to kind of toast the tops.  Take them out and put some butter on each one.

Sprinkle them with cinnamon sugar and pop them back under the broiler until the tops are all crunchy!  Keep a close eye on them so they don’t burn.

Enjoy!  We all love them!

Allergies?

I don’t know if this is allergies I am dealing with or what but I have been feeling pretty crummy for about 5 days now.  Sneezing, stuffy, nose running, sinuses draining, headache….you get the idea!  It’s not so bad that I just want to lay down or anything, but it’s to the point where it’s just getting annoying!  That reminds me, I need to take an allergy pill…

Another thing that is annoying me is my computer…I have been having major issues with it the past few days thanks to some jerk who decided it would be fun to hack my site (again) and add some type of malware into my index files.  Luckily he/she didn’t get into my cart system thanks to my annoyingly LONG new password!  What I failed to take note of when it was hacked earlier this month was that even though I changed my password on my control panel, when they restored the site to the backup, it restored my old password.  Since I don’t access anything through the control panel usually I didn’t think about changing it again, BAD on me!  Now the malware is gone thanks to the ever helpful CS people at justhost.com and I have yet another hard to remember LONG password.  Hopefully this is the last of my hacker problems.  Seriously people, I don’t make nearly enough money to warrant this constant hacking attack!

We are making an effort this summer to eat at home as much as possible, so far we are doing really well.  In the past 2 weeks we have only eaten out 2 times.  We ate at Fazoli’s yesterday (all 5 of us) for less than $10.00!  They have $2.99 Baked Spaghetti, which is what Jake and I got, we got 1 kids meal, filled a stamp card so we got the 2nd kids meal free and added a slice of pizza to the one kids meal for .99 and a kids drink for .99 and then we used a $2 off any order of $5 or more coupon and we all ate for like $9.89 or something like that!  Naturally, Jake forgot to order drinks for the 2 of us so he went back to order them and they guy gave them to us for free!  Can’t beat a deal like that especially with the all-you-can eat breadsticks.  We are sticking to a pretty tight budget with groceries too so we are trying to eat as cheaply as possible even at home.  I have discovered these box meals where everything comes in the box to make like cheesy chicken and rice with broccoli, chicken fried rice, etc…every one we have tried has been good and just enough for the whole family for lunch and they are only $3-$4 a box.  We also made the cake mix cookies yesterday, that’s an easy cheap snack and everyone just LOVES them!

I feel like I need to have a picture in this post, they seem kind of dull without them!

Here is one from last summer…it’s a little sad that pretty much the only think I take pictures of anymore is my bags.  I need to make an effort to take more pictures of living things!

I am off to work…have a great day!

It’s raining…again!

but at least it’s not 95* out!  I am just glad that Jake finally mowed the yard on Saturday.  I think everyone on both sides of our street on this block mowed over the weekend, it looks nice!  Now if I had the time to go out and clean out my landscaping we would be good to go.

This weekend was a long one…I spent all day Friday and Saturday working on the Bridesmaid bags that I needed to have done on Sunday.  I managed to finish them at about 7pm on Saturday.  They turned out super awesome, if I do say so myself!

I ran out of black ribbon and our Walmart didn’t have more so I had to put white on one of them, but I figured she could switch that out on the bag for the Maid of Honor and then hers would be a tad different.  This was the one BIG order that I had left and now that it’s done and delivered I can breathe a little easier.  Now I have 3 orders that still need to pick fabric, but I should be caught up with all the rest in a little over a week.  I am closer now to being caught up than I have been in a long time and it feels really good.

I took yesterday off, but I did sit and work on this yesterday afternoon.  It’s the start of a pincushion that I am making for a scrappy pincushion swap.

These are 1/2” hexes.  I have to make about 10 more and then finish sewing them all together.  I have the fabric picked out for the rest of the pincushion, but I will have to make sure that it all matches, so we’ll see…

Did you watch True Blood last night?  What did you think?  I don’t like that they stray so far from the books, but I live with it and I LOVE seeing more of Eric!  I was hoping to see some Alcide last night too, but no such luck, hopefully next week.  This will have to do for now…

Well, I have tons to get done today!  Have a great one!

Is it the weekend already?

This week has flown by and I haven’t gotten nearly as much done this week as I thought I would.  I started working on these 8 bridesmaid bags on Tuesday and I have them all cut out and all the interfacing cut out and 1/2 of it ironed on.  I will be working my hardest over the next 2 days to get them done since I am delivering them on Sunday.  I did manage to get a camera bag, camera strap, a nursing cover and 3 accordion wallets done this week while I was waiting for my fleece though.  So when I get these bags done it will end up being a pretty productive week.

I did get my hexagon swap stuff the other day.  It was a pretty awesome package with a little surprise inside!  Here is what I got

hex_sw1b  hex_sw1c

That is my Eric Hexagon!  I LOVE him, he looks as old as Eric should look!  This is a funny thing…I bought this pack of fabric scraps from a lady on Etsy so that I would have a bigger variety of Heather Ross fabrics to make Hexes with and this fish fabric was in the pack and this particular fish just happened to be on one of the pieces…

hex2

When I posted the picture on my Flickr account I made the comment that I needed and Eric fish (even though Eric is the character name (on True Blood) and Robert is the actors name (on Twilight).  There are no Eric fish on that fabric, but my swap partner was very thorough when she was coming up with the ideas for my swap hexes and so she embroidered Eric on this gnome hex for me and I LOVE him!!  I have to come up with a very special project for these 2 hexes!

I am doing a scrappy pincushion swap this month too and I am going to incorporate teeny tiny hexes into that somehow.  I have to work on those this weekend while I am watching movies.

I was able to watch Remember Me the other night and it was an excellent movie.  Thanks to Perez Hilton, I knew how it was going to end but that didn’t make it any less sad.  I was crying, tears streaming…very good movie.

We have Valentines Day for this weekend and a couple others that we are going to try to watch so we’ll see how that goes!  We also subbed to HBO so that we don’t miss True Blood, NO was was I going to have to wait to see it!!

Well, I have piles of yellow fabric and interfacing calling my name so I have to get going.   I also have to jump in the shower so I can run to the PO to mail some packages to Canada.  This is when having an assistant would really come in handy!

Have a great weekend!

Not sure that I am liking summer so far…

I am so busy that I haven’t had time to enjoy it much and it’s been so hot that the kids don’t even want to play outside.  So, that leaves them in the house making a bigger mess for me to clean up when I don’t even have time to clean at all.  I am about 2 weeks from being caught up with all my work, but I doubt I will ever be truly caught up!

I am finishing up a DSLR bag and camera strap today then I am starting on a big order of 8 bridesmaid bags.  I think they are going to be super cute!  They are yellow and black.  I should be able to do all the cutting today, but I am out of fleece interfacing.  I ordered it over a week ago and it’s scheduled to be delivered on Thursday.  That gives me a day in between to do one other bag if I have enough fleece left for one.  I do have a couple of smaller things that I will do then too, wallets and a camera strap.

I do actually have other sewing projects that I like to do, but I don’t have as much time for them.  I have decided to make some time for a couple of swaps though.  This is the first one I have done since last summer.  It’s a hexagon swap.  I have recently become addicted to these and they are quick and easy to do while I am watching TV at night.  This is what I sent out to my swap partner.

That little pouch is the perfect size to take your hex supplies with you on the go.  Or it makes a great little make up bag!  I haven’t gotten my package from my partner yet, but I will be sure to post it when I do.

I set up a new shopping cart on my website yesterday and it was super fast and easy.  I was able to customize it pretty easily myself and I can skin it and change the template very easily which is a GOOD thing!  I am going to keep the one on Facebook for the time being, but I may phase it out if I think this new one is working out okay.  I am having a sale right now,  you can read all about that here.  Today is the last day so take advantage of that while you can!

Well, I need to get back to work…have a great day!

Library Day!

Today is the first Library day of the summer.  They are starting a summer reading program so the kids and I are going to see what it’s all about.  At this point in time I have no books checked out!  I finished up the new Black Dagger Brotherhood book I was reading last night.  It was all over the place for awhile, but I ended up enjoying it even more than the last one.  Now I am reading this book…

thirst

I bought this at Walmart quite a while back and it’s just sat there for months.  I picked it up this morning because I didn’t know what to read while I was drinking my coffee.  So far it’s pretty good.  I already put book 2 on hold at the library so hopefully I won’t have to wait too long for it.  This book is my 62nd of the year!  If Jake didn’t work the shift that he does I wouldn’t be able to read like this.  I read mostly when I first get up in the morning when I am drinking coffee and waking up and then again for a couple of hours before I go to bed.

Since I want the kids to do something other than watching TV and playing video games all summer we are going to have time set aside each day for reading.  They each get to check out a certain number of books from the library each time and they have to read them before we take them back.  Should I make them do book reports on them?!

Yesterday was a pretty stressful day all around.  The kids were wild all day long, and I was trying to work.  I did get a camera bag and 3 lens bags done, but I went through and entire new package of needles while sewing the bag.  Five freaking needles broken on one bag.  I was about to rip my hair out!  I did get it done though and finished up a big order that was needing to be done.  The entire order was a big diaper bag, changing pad and wet bag and the DSLR bag and 3 lens bags.  I have to get a big box today and that will be on it’s way to a very awesome repeat customer.

So, I put the kids to bed pretty early since they were so wild and I re-painted my nails while I watched 2 episodes of True Blood Season 1, then I took a bath and went to bed to read and I was able to finish my book.  Hopefully the kids will be better today and I can get some stuff done once we get home from town.  After the library we are going to pick up my embroidery for the 8 bridesmaid bags I am making, then to Chick-fil-a so Jake and I can get our free NEW Spicy Chicken Sandwiches.  I also have to go get some more needles obviously, so I can get a diaper bag done for someone who needs it before she has her baby on June 7th…I should have no problem getting that done today and in the mail tomorrow.

Now, I have to finish getting ready to go!  Until next time you get this picture of my latest crush/obsession!  I can’t get enough of him lately!

I have this movie…maybe I will watch it tonight!
